In modern culture, many believe the dream catcher catches bad dreams and keeps them from affecting a child. The Ojibwe once believed that spiderwebs offered the protection of the Spider Woman, who cared for children, and so dream catchers were woven as protective charms and hung over children's cradles. North American Natives have long believed in the power of the dream catcher.
